Newborn photography requires a lot of patience and know-how, it takes years of practice and training to perfect the poses, add to that the fact that each baby is completely different, so you learn on the go with each session, trying to get to know the precious newborn you are photographing and how they will be their happiest!
Our top priority in all our sessions is to keep babies safe, we never push a newborn baby beyond their comfort zone , and we prefer poses that aren’t too complex, that look more natural. Keep reading to learn about the different poses that we offer.
Table poses
Well, until recently we called them beanbag poses, but we have just started using a table, the images look the same, its just easier on our backs to use a table! Some of these are the most complicated to get right, but the overall simplicity and focus on the newborn makes table poses a favorite for most parents, and I have to agree!
Wrapped in a prop (Basket poses)
These are our go to in every session, when the baby is wrapped, it means that we can easily place them in the prop without waking them up, we can also get a diversity of images by photographing different angles, finally, the top view means we can get creative with what we place around the prop.
Bed pose
This pose is really cute, again, it’s not the easiest to achieve, and the beds are actually really small, so they don’t work for a bigger size newborn… I love the sleeper hats / bed combination in some of the photos below, they remind me of the cartoons we used to watch back in the day!
Parent’s hands
You can’t go wrong with this one…..even if you choose not to have family photos taken, you have a photo that includes all of you, and that looks beautiful hanging on your walls!
Chin on hands in a prop
This one works best for a very sleepy baby, since it requires more posing to get the hand placement just right….it really is hard to choose a favorite , babies look adorable in all the poses!
That covers most of what we do, but there are always variations, and the posing depends on the baby, not all babies love all the poses….Stay tuned for the next blog post in which we will share all about family and sibling photos !
